2013Luau Themed cake and cupcakes
I was again commissioned to do a set of cupcake and this time, with an additional order of a cake! This is my 2nd big order of cupcakes and my first attempt on a cake!
The theme was a Hawaian Luau Party. So here’s the idea –
A two layered cake, with green grass, blue for water and a bunch of flowers. Some Stick-Os at the bottom as a fence or cover for the base styro.
So I got this cake mould from Ikea that has this mountain like shape, it is a set already, the bigger one at the bottom and the smaller one on top.
These are just perfect for my design.
The client is very kind enough to offer as much help as she can give since she knows that I am just new to this. She is also very easy to work with as she already know what she wants and provides some references, photos and images from the internet of how she visualises it. Of course, she still leaves it all up to me on how the final look will be, the images she sent are only for reference.
Since she went to the Philippines for a visit, she bought there as much materials and ingredients as she could for this project. She brought me icing sugars, cocoa powders, ready made design toppers, sprinkles, coconut tree, umbrella, etc.
These made the work much easier for me. But, the girl scout in me wanted to always be ready, I thought that what if the toppers are not enough? So I made some toppers my self. I experimented on a Royal Icing.
All of these, I learned from youtube. I made these 2 days before the party since these needs lots of time to totally dry up.
Janna helped with decorating the toppers. She puts beads!
Those toppers that are over-beaded were works of Janna. She just can’t have enough 😛
Here are the cupcakes ready for delivery.
