2013International Day at HK, so the schools here would ask students to wear their national costumes to school.
Janna’s school announced this just a day before the event. So I have 2 options, look around for shops that may be selling Philippine costumes, or make one from scratch.
I actually did both, after school, Janna and I explored the whole World Wide house in Central, visiting each floor in hopes of finding a Philippine costume for her (or even a bakya at least)… but no luck.
It is really quite hard to find Philippine national costumes here. So we rushed to North Point where I once saw some side walk shops selling cheap fabrics. Good thing we were still able to find one open shop at 5 mins to 6 o’clock, since most of them would close at 6pm. The vendor was good enough to accommodate us. I was initially planning to make a Filipiniana costume, much like what Imelda always wear with the fluffy sleeves, but then I found this nice fabric print that could pass for a “Baro’t Saya”, so I decided to buy both just in case. I bought several fabric types, for the Filipiniana gown and for the Baro’t saya.
We arrived home at around 7:30, there is not much time left , so I decided to just do the easier of the 2, with the help of Yaya Sima, we ended up making the Baro’t Saya.
Yaya did the skirt, which is just pretty easy, since we decided to just use a garter.
I did the pink top, the bandana and the sash.
Take note, this is the first time I will make a costume for Janna.
I forgot what time we finished but I think it didn’t reach past midnight 😛
So what do you think? Pretty neat for a first timer huh? 😛
